On Farm Milling Services
Tamar Milling provides an on farm grain milling service for customers wanting to use home-grown or purchased grain in their livestock rations.
Conventionally stored grain can be rolled ready for feeding in batches around the year to maintain freshness. Molasses can be incorporated to suppress dust and improve intakes. The investment in a new Wakely high output roller mill / crimper now allows the incorporation of minerals and protein balancer to produce finished feeds on farm.
Processing of the entire crop at harvest is growing in popularity. Crops will require treatment with a variety of preservative options from moist grain crimping and ensiling through to urea based additives or propionic preservation. Nick has 20 years experience in this field and can advise on the most suitable option for your farm. (top tip: the additive salesman visiting you in June will not know what moisture your grain will come off at in August. You can spend a lot of money on the wrong product because it rains for a week, or the combine breaks down for a couple of days).
Tamar Milling stock a wide range of tried and tested additive options so that the most suitable and effective one for your actual crop can be used, bearing in mind the facilities you have for storage and how, when and to what you plan to feed it. Using our buying power will normally get the additive price down as well!!
Harvest time is incredibly busy. Our impartial advice is free but difficult to give over the phone when driving the loader with one hand trying to keep up with a crimper. Forward planning is essential for the best results. If the crop is in the ground and growing, give us a call, it is never too early to work out where, when and how to get it processed effectively and profitably. Definitely ring before writing a cheque for additive.
